No Rotten Eggs Here

Alex Caldwell, owner of Vivian Alexander, Inc., has placed his company into Chapter 7 bankruptcy protection. Caldwell has been designing unique and beyond-pricey handbags for the country club set and celebs across the U.S. and around the world. According to Caldwell, and reported by Katy Stech on www.wsj.com , the move of placing his business into bankruptcy is to “help the 79-year-old business owner wind down the formal operations, though Caldwell will continue to sell his artwork through his website”.

Caldwell’s egg-shaped, pure-silver, gem-stone encrusted purses are inspired by the legendary jeweler-to- the-Russian-tsars, Peter Carl Faberge, and have been sold through such high-end retailers as Neiman-Marcus and Harrods. He has also fabricated elaborate eggs, sometimes replicating the Faberge originals, for such Hollywood films as “Ocean’s Twelve” and “The Sitter”. He morphed into the handbag business following the September 11 attacks, when enthusiasm for the high-end artwork diminished. It had previously enjoyed a renaissance of a sort, following a traveling museum exhibit, Faberge in America.
Caldwell, who has made millions and millions of dollars designing glorious and gorgeous faux-Faberges, bases his operations somewhere in the New Orleans swamps.
